Un jardin
à soi.

Art on fabric. An interactive journey through colour, pattern and the work of four designers.

Independent prototype · about 5 minutes · English, French, German

Pastel flowers surround the title Un jardin à soi

Why put art on fabric?

Sonia Delaunay and Liubov Popova wanted abstract art to be part of everyday life. Fabrics could become clothing, and patterns could be printed many times. This experience connects that history with making a design of your own.

Try it. Then look more closely.

  1. Print

Place a flower on blank fabric using a digital printing block.

  2. Discover

Examine a historic silk and see the difference between weaving and printing.

  3. Choose

Explore an idea from Julie Beaudeneau, Sonia Delaunay, Maija Isola or Liubov Popova.

  4. Create

Change colours, size and placement on your own fabric, then download your pattern.

Moving pale fabric shows colourful flowers arranged in the studio
A personal design appears on moving fabric.

A small change becomes visible.

What happens when just one flower changes colour? How does a background affect the same shape? The examples invite comparison. In the studio, visitors can try these ideas with their own motifs.

Concept, writing, visual design and interaction.

A self-initiated project by Isabella Kohout / Salon Format. A short digital introduction to art and textile design, with optional background reading, sources and a personal pattern to take away.

Un jardin à soi was created independently of any museum. A collaboration could introduce selected collection objects and specific learning aims. The studio motifs are original designs, not reproductions of the artists’ works.
